Sean Finds Success with Customized Employment

Sean was having some trouble finding a job with an employer who was able to accommodate his needs. His Goodwill Employment Specialist, Tammy, had previously discussed Customized Employment with staff at Premier at Susquehanna, a nursing and rehabilitation facility in Millersburg, and thought it might be a good fit for Sean. She set up an interview, and Sean was hired right away!

Premier at Susquehanna was able to create a custom position for Sean that accommodates his needs and abilities while also meeting the needs of the business. Sean works three to four days a week (sometimes more if he gets called in), folding towels, gowns, blankets, sheets and linens while keeping an accurate count of the items he folds. Because he has been doing so well, his supervisors are keen on expanding his job duties; soon, Sean will be learning how to use the washers and dryers.

Outside of work, Sean spends time at Portraits of Life in Lykens and at God’s Puzzle Pieces in Millersburg. He enjoys listening to music and singing, spending time with his family and horseback riding.

Customized Employment is a process for individualizing the employment relationship between a job seeker and an employer that is based on a match between the unique strengths, needs and interests of the job seeker and the identified business needs of the employer.
