Goodwill Proud to Support WITF in Commemorating 30th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act


July 26, 2020 marks the 30th anniversary of when President George H.W. Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities Act into law. Goodwill Keystone Area is proud to help WITF commemorate the anniversary of this landmark legislation by supporting a number of television documentaries airing on Sunday, July 26.

“At Goodwill we believe everyone should have the opportunity to earn wages, live independently and achieve their dreams,” said Rick Hill, Goodwill Keystone Area’s president and CEO. “For more than 100 years, Goodwill has helped people with disabilities build skills, find jobs and grow their careers – allowing them to fully participate in the workforce and in their communities.

“We join WITF in celebrating this truly groundbreaking civil rights legislation and other efforts that promote equality for all.”

The special programs on July 26 air from noon to 4 p.m. on WITF-TV. The schedule is as follows:

12 p.m., i go home – Chronicles the role institutionalization played in the life of people with intellectual disabilities in 1960s America.

1 p.m., Going Home – Going Home, a follow-up to i go home, examines the journey toward inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities.

2 p.m., Hearts of Glass – Portrays one community’s attempt to address pressing issues around local food production, inclusion and opportunity.

3 p.m., Employment Matters – Explores the untapped market and huge potential of the intellectually disabled in the workplace.

3:30 p.m., Employment Matters Too – Discovers how large corporations benefit from hiring employees with intellectual disabilities.
